Spring showed its head for a few days last week, some blue skies and fluffy white clouds passed us by anyway. This is such a rare sight that I went out and grabbed some pictures of local landmarks set against these nice skies.
This one is not exactly in Newcastle, it is in Gateshead just over the river. Tis is A large sculpture called the Gateshead Angel designed and created by an artist called Anthony Gormley -it is one of the most photographed sights in my area.
It got me thinking of a project. I might do a photographic tour of my home town. This will be a lengthy project probably taking many months in order to get the best shots for each lcation (we have 6 bridges, two of which are allegedly world famous, and lots of cool modern architecture as well as old, listed buildings).
Is anybody interested in seeing these? If it sounds too dull let me know because it will be a big project to take on!
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

@Saeed: Thank you so much for the great compliment! =D)
Seen by 90,000 people a week from the A1, one of my favourite public sculptures. A trip to the south Bank in London is well worth it for some of his other stuff. Personally, I've just embarked on a 'tour' of my home town, its quite adictive, there is lots to see once you get off the beaten track -I'll look forward to seeing the fuits of your travels... great shot by the way.

@Rhys: Cheers Rhys =D) I'm not sure where I stand with his work (Gormley's) but it sure is ubiquitous.
For the longest time, I really did not see the point in this sculpture. Its only recently that I've looked closer and found that it really is special. Nice capture!

@Kris: If I'm honest, I'm still looking!
Thanks for the comment though =D)
Great sky. One day I want to see this statue from up close.

@Betty: Thank you Betty. x
I never really liked the Angel when it was first presented, but over the year's it has grown on me. Such a huge structure I think it will be there for evermore. I am meaning to go to Crosby to see the Iron men on the beach, which was another controversial concept. Dan I would have liked this in landscape.

@Observing: Now I like the idea of the men at crosby beach much better and will probably go photograph them at some point - I always thought this was too small, whats the point in a gesture like this if its not a BIG gesture... ?
I took some in Landscape but I didn't really like any of them you you can't have what you want! =Dp
Wow what an interesting sculpture, what would be nice is to see something that would put some sense of scale and perspective on this. Great angle, and a marvelous shot.

@Graham Russon: You know, usually there is at least someone there to get in the way (or add scale). There were a bunch of people leaving as I arrived and a carful arriving as I left - I considered myself lucky there was noone there! But if you google search for gatehead angel you will probably find what ypou're looking for.
Really like how you've framed this, Dave. Great job with the details. I've seen this fleetingly on TV and have wondered what it really looks like... now I know. Really incredible structure.
