My housemate is a photography student and has recently been given an HDR brief to shoot 'spaces through which we move'; spaces which are never a destination and are essentially forgotten, overlooked.
This brief really captured my imagination and I've been looking for a good reason to try out some HDR programs anyway =D) So I thought I'd try a few for myself.
This one is taken from the other end of the same bridge as yesterday. This one is my favourite of this series (one more to come).
I've added a vignette to aid the eye into following the line of the footpath.
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

@Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine, this one is my favourite of the bunch so its nice to hear you say that.
very nice use of space and I like the pov

Excellent composition! Nice shot.

@Betty: Thanks Betty =D)
Wow.. I Love The Sky ^^
And The Composition.. Awesome =)
But Seriously I Love The Bright Blue Sky

@JustShenn: Lol, thanks, I'm glad you like the sky. I actually don't like it. The clouds look weird because it is a combination of different images - I am trying to keep the shots realistic but those darn cklouds wouldn't stay still for me!
I think the sidewalk here is particularly effective at "rolling" us into the photo. Very well done.

@GJC: Thanks, I always appreciate your thoughtful comments Yakumo.
Each of these cityscapes seems to be better than the last. This one is great, perfectly framed with the bridge leading in. Kudos to you. BTW your camera details don't show up.

@Observing: Thanks Mike, I didn't actually upload them in any particular order. I like the 2nd one and this one the best, tomorrow's and yesterday's ar a bit weak I feel. But I'm glad you like 'em.
These were all shot with my Sigma SD14 and 10-20mm lens at f22 but aminus can't detect the exif from the HDR images I guess.
I really like the sidewalk in this, and wonder if the image would be stronger without so much sky (but the sky is wonderfully blue!). Those buildings and the square windows match the squares in the sidewalk very nicely as well - a great image.

@Chris: Thanks Chris, The 'sidewalk' is my favourite part of this image and the sky is my least favourite. i think the problem is that I have posted the image too bog and you have to scroll down to get to the good bits!
It's a great pov of the walkway! But I'm finding the buildings distracting.. now that's me. I'm wondering if a b/w conversion would be better so then it would be just the lines you'd see. ??
19 Apr 2008 5:45pm
@amy: Really? Hmmm I rarely ever make b&w images but I see that it might work for this shot, which is composed mainly of lines. However, the buildings are all pretty much shades of grey anyway so I don't anticipate them becoming less distracting... I'll give it a try though!
Well, I tried it but I only liked the way the b&w conversion affected the walkway so I applied a gradient mask to remove the b&w from the upper half and now it looks like this.
like the tones and textures, and composition. the sky looks kind of awkward, like it's been overprocessed for lack of a better term.

@danthro: Thanks. You're right about the sky, it is an HDR artifact because the clouds were moving during exposures so the resulting combination of images looks weird in the clouds. I could have worked around this by choosing an image with a good sky and layering that over the top of this, but I was really just learning how different HDR processes work with these shots.
you really have an eye for making things/places beautiful out of ordinary ones. Greatly Done!

@pLusOne: Thanks +1, coming from you that compliment means a lot!
Awesome work i like the dark textures on that bulding.

@pedro alexandre: Thanks Pedro, usually these buildings are lost against the grey skies of Newcastle but I feel the blue sky has allowed them to show their inner beauty!
Sometimes I miss the mark by such a long distance it's quite pitiful... point taken, Dan. LOL ;-)
