This was taken in the Lake District the same time as all the lone tree shots I posted last month. I had gone to the Lakes expecting brooding skies and interesting light but instead I was given a stunning summers day.
Another chance to practice breaking my self made mould! I'm glad I had the Sigma SD10 on me that day because I just love how it handles blue skies.
I've spent most of last month working on images to put on my (currently under construction) website. Most of them I won't be posting here but landscape photography is the area I'm most interested in getting into so I figured, why not put them out there (or on here)!
I am 80-90% satisfied with these images; I like to photograph wild places and dramtic landscapes but I'm not sure if my processing seems a little... amature. So please be as harsh as you can regarding post processing as well as composition, lighting, subject matter etc: I'm looking to improve!
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

@Ana Lúcia: Certainly it is in the summer =D)
Gosh Dan! this is georgous, there are so many waterlillies it's amazing. Beautifully captured.

@MaryB: Thanks Mary - I have a thing for water lillies, there's something captivating about them; it was a pleasant surprise to find so many here.
Nice composition! Beautiful scene.

@Betty: Thank you!
Fresh, beautiful, inspiring....

@Lorraine: Indeed, it was. But I can't trake credit for that =D)
Fantastic. The lake district is one of my favorite places. Unfortunately i was not into photography last year when i was there. This shot makes me want to get back there as soon as possible.

@Kris: And so you should lol! Let me know if you're going back there sometime. Maybe we can go on a photographic jaunt together =D)
Beautiful Landscape and Cool Composition!

@pLusOne: Thanks +1! =D)
Great composition on this one - just the perfect balance of foreground and sky. The blue in the sky is wonderful.
14 Apr 2008 9:18am
@Chris: Thanks Chris, I'm glad you like it. can you believe, that blue is captured without a polarising filter!
Wow, beautiful! I love the detail of the lake at the bottom.
14 Apr 2008 10:17am
@e.: Thank you! I'll let you in on a little secret; I've enlarged the bottom 5th of the scene in photoshop to make more of that foreground detail =D) shhhh!
This is an image with lots to look at, blue sky, clouds, landscape and water. You've done well to frame all this, lovely. I'm looking forward to going to the lakes again.

@Observing: Thanks Mike! I am looking forward to going back there too - I'm waiting for good weather though so I can take the motorbike up there and have some fun with that as well =D)
excellent my friend - I like the framing the colors and the sky very much

@yiannis krikis: Thank you kindly =D)
Super shot with a great sky and magnificent details, love it!

@MadScientist: Thanks, it was a beautiful day, I'm just glad I had a camera with me =D) And happy to share it!
Something bothers me, it's "aminus3.com" in the middle of the shot ! And the hills at the bottom are not clear enough. Sorry for my bad english.... But it's a nice shot !
14 Apr 2008 11:51am
@tilala: Ah yes, I get complaints about that all the time - but what is the point in a protection mark if it is not distracting?! Wait till I have finished my website and you will be able to see all these images distraction free =D)
I was using a small aperture for some reason, which is why the hills are not sharp - it isn't so apparrent on the clouds. I think I was trying to convey the experience of the expanse of water lillies by using shallow DOF but I do keep wishing I had taken one at f.22 as well!
Thanks for commenting =D)
Nice compositon and beautiful landscape! ( and thx for your comment ) ;)

@S.A.Lee: Thank you (and you're welcome!) =D)
Lovely shot, the angle is great. The lily's in the foreground are magnificent

@Graham Russon: Thanks Grazy =D)
magnifique paysage.
14 Apr 2008 3:53pm
@Marie: Merci!
beautiful light and color. nice sky and landscape, but my favorite part is the water and lilypads.
14 Apr 2008 4:17pm
@danthro: Thanks, definitely my favourite part too, thats why I used a shallow DOF so that the lillies take the stage so to speak =D)
What I really like about this is the layers of interest that it has and the good exposure, with well captured highlights in the clouds.
14 Apr 2008 8:43pm
@Andrew Gould: Thanks, the low slung clouds that day made it easy to create these sort of 'layered' images, which I love to do =D)
I really like how the eye is led wonderfully up to those clouds. Beautifully done, Dan!

@amy: Thanks Amy - and thanks for the email =D)
great framing and composition... from the flowers at bottom to the sky looks really good!
14 Apr 2008 9:21pm
@DarkElf: Thank you kindly =D)
great job here dan, you have done a great job with the composition, bringing the green in the pond plants with the hillside and the sky with the pond reflection, a definitely well-balanced image
14 Apr 2008 11:40pm
@e nelsonian: Thanks for the considered compliment =D) I did originally have more sky reflection in the foreground but I chose to enlarge the water lilles in the bottom 5th of the frame in photoshop, sacraficing a little of the balance for some stronger foreground interest - I'm glad you still noticed the balance though =D)
wow really Beautiful
14 Apr 2008 11:41pm
@MOHAMMAD: Thank you =D)
O.o WOW

@JustShenn: Thanks =D)
Your landscapes are great! In that I'm feeling like a frog!
6 May 2008 10:05am
@iacopo: Ha ha ha! Thanks, your comment made me smile. I suppose I have taken a 'frogs eye view' of the scene =D)
