Another coastal shot - my favourite type of landscape to shoot =D) I like the way the lone rock on the beach mirrors the sinking sun in the sky.
When I took the shot it was rather boring so I have given it a more austere feel in Photoshop.
I've spent most of last month working on images to put on my (currently under construction) website. Most of them I won't be posting here but landscape photography is the area I'm most interested in getting into so I figured, why not put them out there (or on here)!
I am 80-90% satisfied with these images; I like to photograph wild places and dramtic landscapes but I'm not sure if my processing seems a little... amature. So please be as harsh as you can regarding post processing as well as composition, lighting, subject matter etc: I'm looking to improve!
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

@Stefan: Thankyou =D)
Beautiful~ Beautiful Shot! I like the composition and the rays of the light from the top left, and the stone of the bottom left

@pLusOne: Thanks, this one is quite minimal so I had to make sure there were some strong compositional elements.
Superb composition! I like this imbalance in the image. I don't know; other way it kind of balances out itself. Very interesting!

@Vikram: Thanks Vikram, I think I know what you mean =D) This shot is very minimal and a bit 'left heavy' but I think the pool in front right and the lead in line formed by the sand help ease the imbalance...
Very nice image

@alun lambert: Thank you! =D)
this is FANTASTIC, BRAVO please do not put am3 in the centre of the picture, choose a corner.

@Dimitrios: Hey thanks for the compliment =D) I'm afraid I always put the watermark in the center for any of my Portfolio images - my little paranoia. You will be able to enjoy them distraction free when I get my website online.
This is one of those images that can be stared at while the thoughts wander to happy days, sunshine and time to enjoy the combination.

@Ronnie 2¢: Ha ha, well I'm glad about that =D) This image was actually taken whilst I was high ttailing it around the coast of the island chasing the sun before it set - tired and sweating in full motobike leathers (yes, I'm an idiot!).
Very well done, beautiful shot.

@Betty: Thank you =D)
Stunning landscape indeed I love the simili between the stone and the sun :) ps I have to agree with Dimitrios, I would put 'Aminus3' in the bottom right corner of the photo so as not to distract from your great photos :)

@Lorraine: Thankyou Lorraine =D) There is a (selfish) method to my watermark madness; when my website is up I will want to direct people there to see the shots distraction free!
This is sublime. You've really brought out the shades and textures in the sand, and those wispy clouds contrast beautifully. And that lone rock.....perfecto.

@Stu: Thank you Stu =D)
Outstanding work...beautifully captured. Love the texture of the sand and especially the sky. Brilliant work as usual.

@Melissa W.: Thanks, I too love those wispy clouds in the sky. Their structure only became apparent when I desaturated the image =D)
Beautiful!!!!!

@Thomas: Thankyou kindly Thomas, I'm glad you like them =D)
Great landscape, the boulder adds something to it, cant think what though

@Peter Miller: Thanks Peter =D) I was kinda hoping it would add balance and foreground interest... =Dp
Beautiful Dan. The colors and texture are so "summer". Love it!

@Tracey: Thanks =D) It originally came out a bit flat because of the flare so I have done a little bit of hand colouring to this.
Excellent shot, like the patterns on the sand

@Ina: Thanks Ina! I love sand, I think it is a great subject to shoot.
Fantastic shot, colours and composition are great. The lens flare is marvelous and makes a good shot, even better. The aminus watermark is distracting, and detracts from the pic.
10 Apr 2008 3:31pm
@Graham Russon: Thanks, glad you like the flare - it means I don't have to try cropping it out!
Oooo! Dan, this is wonderful, the beautiful ripples in the sand, the sunflare and the rock, together make an outstanding image.

@MaryB: Thanks Mary, you likem it for all the same reasons I do =D) at least I know I'm not totally biased now lol!
lovely composition!!

@Kaddy: Thank you =D)
I love the photograph - but I don't like the Aminus 3 watermark right across the middle. (These photos at 800 x are no use to anyone to steal for printing - at best they could distribute them in a powerpoint or yes even post them on the web - but they can't make any money on them at this resolution). Also, I would have preferred this scene not to have had the horizon line almost across the centre of the photo. I realize that this might have been difficult to crop with the lovely sun and flare where it is, perhaps a little more sand at the bottom would have done it. There! that is all my beefs! You said you could take it lol! It actually is a lovely image with the windswept clouds and such detail in the sand. The Rock and shadow add splendid depth and perspective :-)

@Anne: Ahh! Finally someone who steps up to the plate lol =D)
First the watermark - its not part of the image so I get sick of people talking about it, I suppose I could just move it (as you say, nobody will gain much from stealing it) but it is there deliberately so that when I get my website up I can funnel people there for distraction free viewing =D)
As for the composition, I agree: I prefer big skies or interesting foregrounds but this image had neither so there was no criteria to say 'move the camera up or down'. Also, as you rightly surmised, moving it down would have lost the sun, moving it up would have bisected the rock's shadow and, while I did try a vertical composition, it loses the balance provided by the pool on the right and the lead in line of the shore...
So, I appreciate the comment, you're not wrong about that 50/50 split b ut ut was a compromise I felt compelled to make =D)
i like your use of the sun in this image, not easily accomplished, nice work
