This is what the scene looked like without the sunset filter on. It was magical. I went to Holy Island specifically for the sunset but never expected to be so richly rewarded.
All of these colours were actually present; I did boost contrast and saturation to make them more apparrent; and I have also combined two RAW shots because I could not have captured these colours and the sun at the same time, but the dynamic range of the Fuji SR sensor was a real bonus in helping to get what I wanted from the scene.
I've spent most of last month working on images to put on my (currently under construction) website. Most of them I won't be posting here but landscape photography is the area I'm most interested in getting into so I figured, why not put them out there (or on here)!
I am 80-90% satisfied with these images; I like to photograph wild places and dramtic landscapes but I'm not sure if my processing seems a little... amature. So please be as harsh as you can regarding post processing as well as composition, lighting, subject matter etc: I'm looking to improve!
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

Are u wanna be a professional or just enjoying to taking photos?
8 Apr 2008 1:11am
@pLusOne: I really enjoy taking photos pLusOne, and I don't believe anyone should have to do something they don't enjoy just to make money so I do hope one day to be making money whilst I make photos. So I guess that makes me 'a wannabe professional' - but for now its just for fun. Hopefully the new website will change that.
holy island indeed, the colors in this picture are beautiful, also i like the composition, great work

@Stefan: They're greay aren't they? =D) Glad you like the shot.
Those almost psychedelic colours make for a most eye-catching scene. Love the deep blues to the top left. Really like this.

@Stu: Thanks Stu - the deep blues you like are m ostly down to my use of an inferior lens which has shown some vignetting lol! I quite like the vignette effect too though.
My first reaction was negative, too bright, too too everything, moody, very moody, sigh, I love it after all :)

@Lorraine: Ha ha ha! Thanks Lorraine =D) I worry that I have over done the processing but people seem to like it and even you have succumbed!

@Sandrine: Thankyou Sandrine, I'm glad you like it =D)
The colours are out of this world, like something from a paint programs pallet. Good shot.

@Graham Russon: Thanks Graham =D) they are enhanced in Photoshop but the original paint program is copyrighted by God (or science - you choose lol!).
Wow. It's so beautiful. where is this holy island place, and how can i get there? seriously though, very beautiful!

fantastic surreal colours, the island in the middle is almost an afterthought - well done!

@DarkElf: I'm not sure what that little island is actually called but it has a big crucifix atop of it and I thought it would give a sense of place.
The colours are absolutely stunning, beautiful work Dan.
