This is another one taken from Holy Island, this time the west coast. The sunset was simply fantastic with all sorts of colours in the sky. I used a heavy sunset filter for this exposure however, so you will have to wait till tomorrow to see how ethereal the colours were, but I really do like this fiery image.
I've spent most of last month working on images to put on my (currently under construction) website. Most of them I won't be posting here but landscape photography is the area I'm most interested in getting into so I figured, why not put them out there (or on here)!
I am 80-90% satisfied with these images; I like to photograph wild places and dramtic landscapes but I'm not sure if my processing seems a little... amature. So please be as harsh as you can regarding post processing as well as composition, lighting, subject matter etc: I'm looking to improve!
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

@Stu: Thanks Stu =D)
Nice shot, but I have a little problem with composition ;) I think it would be better ;)

@Shaahin: I'm guessing by the winks that you are being sarcastic, so I will take that as a back handed compliment =D) If tou really do think the composition could be improved (and it probably could with a little foreground interest) then let me know how!
Well, this looks like the sunset of the very last day! I'm really curious about your website!

@MadScientist: Thanks =D) the landscape section will be only a small section of my website, you will be seeing all the images if you hang around here =D) Landsscapes ar my favourite pictures to make but there is more money in weddings and portraits!
Very other-wordly. It looks like it should have been too hot for you to be there!

@Tracey: Ha ha! It was actually quite chilly, that is the beauty of a sunset filter =D) Although I was pretty hot and sweaty because I'd been tramping around the island all day in my motorbike leathers and carrying all my camera equipment - so perhaps this wa a reflection of my inner landscape =D)
wow ! great light ! i like it ! excellent

@Laurie: Thanks - I was using a pretty strong sunset filter, rendering the image almost monochrome but I do love how this has turned out =D)

@paulski: Thanks for all the kind words =D)
Wow. Very very beautiful light here. What's a sunset filter?
7 Apr 2008 5:47pm
@danthro: Hey thanks danthro. I use Cokin filters. A sunset filter is a piece of square glass/plastic which is transparent but has been coloured a deep orange to simulate the colours you expect form a sunset. You place it into a bracket which holds it in front of the lens (you can also get ones that screw into your lens or rear mounted gels that slot in behind the real lens element). The one I was using was particularly stong but you can get different grades. The effect can be simulated in Photoshop.
nice sunset
