This one is a sunset shot except that I used a flash to illuminate the foreground so, again, it looks kind of weird - an intentional weird hoping to emphasize the wildness of this coastline.
Its come out looking a little soft. i don't know why. I shall have to look into that.
I've spent most of last month working on images to put on my (currently under construction) website. Most of them I won't be posting here but landscape photography is the area I'm most interested in getting into so I figured, why not put them out there (or on here)!
I am 80-90% satisfied with these images; I like to photograph wild places and dramtic landscapes but I'm not sure if my processing seems a little... amature. So please be as harsh as you can regarding post processing as well as composition, lighting, subject matter etc: I'm looking to improve!
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

a great shot and a great idea - never thought of firing the flash on a landscape before- must try it!

@Rhys: Thanks Rhys - I have some other images from the same session, as it gets darker the flash effect looks really surreal.
arrrrrrrrr you have no idea how your images are good. Don't forget to remember there's some ppls who want to be a photographer like you

@pLusOne: Thanks pLusOne, your 'arrrrrrr' made me laugh =D) I'm glad you like my work, now I just have to figure out how to sell these so I can pay off my credit cards and justify buying all this camera gear lol!
Its a really cool shot. there's kinda a surreal feel to it.

@shiqi: Thanks Shiqi, that is usually my intention with landscapes - I find the best way to communicate how mindblowing mature is is to make it seem almost unnatural! I'm not sure its the best way to go but it is definitely my way lol!
Beautiful! Very well executed!

@chakrapani: Thankyou very much. I actually prefer yesterday's to this one but I'm glad you have chosen this one. There are 15 in total though se keep coming back lol!
This is my favourite so far. With a coast line this beautiful, it's a shame to hide it in the shadows, using the flash was a great idea.

@MaryB: Thanks Mary, this one seems a popular one, I thought yesterdays would be winning the vote so far! Looks like it was a good idea to put them on here =D)
Beautiful!

@Eleftheria, 9 years old,: Thankyou!
I like it! Looks like been lit by two suns, the other one behind the photographer :)

@Peter Miller: Well this is another one from the area around Elgin and Hopeman in Scotland - just in case you get some free time =D)
I think its an outstanding shot; I do, however, see your point about the front portion of the foreground being a bit soft. It seems to me that the foreground from the watermark down is a bit too bright ... maybe a gradient adjustment layer just on that portion. Just a thought ...

@Ron: Yes, I see what you mean Ron, and the fact that it is bright sort of devides attention between the foreground and the sun. I'll add a gradient and see how it looks, thanks =D)
Update: I just tried it and it does work, makes the shot much easier to look at - thank you!
Fantastic shot, great idea with the flash on the foreground. Gives it a different feel.

@Graham Russon: Thank you kindly =D)
I love the shot, but agree with Ron. I too think the foreground is soft, as if the focus isn't on any one thing in particular. Sometimes that happens to me too and I don't know why. I wish I could help you out with the "why" part. I like the composition and the idea to use the flash.

@Tracey: I want to start experimenting with hyperfocal focus, maybe that will help but in actual fact, the shot is sharp and the Photoshop document looks sharp too. its just that somwhere in the resize, save as jpeg and upload sequence, sharpness has been lost...

@Sandrine: Thankyou!
A diffuser on your flash would help a bit as you won't get as much light bouncing off all that white (bird crap) on the rocks. And to totally change the image you could crop out all the foreground.... I do understand why you wanted it there for that wide angle huge expanse effect... However, I do also just love this for that other worldly look. It really is a beautiful image in and of itself!!

@amy: Hi Amy, thanks for the info. I was actually using a diffuser so I guess its just really reflective bird crap! I did try cropping it into a more panoramic format, losing the foreground and it does look nice but I prefer the other worldy look that the foreground brings to the image =D)
Beautiful picture and colors. Very good idea about the flash. When resizing for the web there is always a loose of sharpness. You can add a little sharpness before sending it (if this can help?)
4 Apr 2008 8:28pm
@akarui: Yes, you're right, I should have added some more sharpening after resizing. I know for future reference!
Thanks!
Beautiful atmosphere and colors. I specially appreciate the importance of the foreground witch is very interesting ( different colors, light, relief...). I agree with Akarui, we must add a little sharpness before send photos on the blog, i do that, it's better.
