You may recall me saying I was away from home for a week or so mid feb. i was visiting friends in Edingburgh and Dublin. I had hoped to get some nice shots of these placed while I was there (as this was my first time visiting) but unfortunately, foggy weather followed me to both places =D(
This might have been a nice shot of visitors leaving edingburgh castle but it suffers from a bad case of 'subject failure'. I am surprised the camera picked up so much detail of the castle in the fog because I could not see any of this with the naked eye!
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

wow, you did really well. that foggy makes this one look a lot better and moody.

@pLusOne: Yes, I suppose it is better than a standard tourist shot in sunlight. And I'm glad I took the photo because now I can see some of the castle lol!
Wow, I actually missed the castle when I first looked at the photo. It looks mysterious in the foggy background.

@Ken: Well I missed it entirely when I was there ha ha! I was so surprised to se it in the image. I was originally just trying to capture an image of people emerging from the fog.
The mist makes the people stand out even more dramatically than normal. I like the shot.

@Michael Skorulski: Thanks Michael. i do like this shot also. if it had been a nice day I would have been annoyed by all the people getting in the way of my 'architectural' shot. As it stands, the people are waht make this shot interesting =D)
Looks great like this I reckon. Very mysterious and moody.

@Stu: Thanks Stu, I am glad I took the shot regardless of the weather =D)
Excellent Fog photo, and isn't that what it's all about,finding a light where there's none. I love it :)
14 Mar 2008 4:50am
@Lorraine: Working the light! That is what its all about =D) I struggled that day though lol! I'm glad you like the shot.
really like this one, great atmo

@Denis: Cheers Denis!
Ok I am often accused of being over-imaginative, but they DO look like warriors returning after a battle. You know the fog could actually be the dust settling in the aftermath of a really gruesome batlle...And the holding hands and walking together.. United we stand divided we fall? I really like the drama in the picture!
14 Mar 2008 5:47am
@Kleos: Ha ha ha! If there is such a thing as over-imaginitive then you are not far off =D) I did originally take the picture thinking it would just be figures in the mist, like people crossing into/out of death. But when I processed the shot the castle appeared! But the castle fits with your warrior interpretation =D)
Yes, dramatic could be the word for this pic. This background of fog seems like the "mists of time" out of which these timeless ones are walking into our own world, for some as yet unknown purpose.

@Viewfinder: That was the effect I was going for... honest! lol! I think the pushchair puts paid to the 'timless' idea but I like the way you think =D)
Great way to shot the atmosphere. No pun intended

@Dylan Tucker: Thanks Dylan. I don't mind puns =D)
Amazing... Love the fog.
14 Mar 2008 8:59am
@Alana: Thanks =D) If I'm honest, I hated the fog that day. My first time in Edingburgh and I couldn't see anything! lol
Actually it's pretty damn great! The figures emerging from the fog.. it's an interesting flight of fancy.
I did a little research to get the exact reason for the change in the exif (what can I say.. I'm anal LOL) With digital cameras they have a 1.5x magnification because of the sensor. So unless you have a DSLR that has a full frame sensor you'll always get that magnification factor. There I feel better now. LOL ;-)

@amy: Ha ha! You are anal but I don't mind; there is nothing wromg with being thorough. I think you were just trying to live up to your new 'fountain of klnowledge' nickname. just so you know, I use a Sigma camera and they have a 1.7x crop factor!
I'm glad you liked the image, I loved how emphatic your compliment was. Anytime you want to tell me my pictures are 'pretty damn great' just you feel free, its good for my ego lol!
Fantastic picture, its a great moody shot. The photographers main goal is to tell a story, which you have done with this.

@Graham Russon: Thanks graham =D)
I'm surprised you're disappointed with this shot. You've captured a wonderful 'sense' of space. Very v nice
14 Mar 2008 5:23pm
@Paul: I think I misrepresented my feelings. I definitely prefer this to a standard tourist, sunny day shot. I was attempting to get a 'figures in the mist' shot so there is altogether too much detail in this for what I wanted to achieve. And, conversely, now that it has the detail it seems that the people in the shot are not in focus and their skin looks too yellow - so that is why I'm disappointed with it. But overall I'm pleased with it, pleased enough to post it!
Beautiful mist shot. Great colours and atmosphere!

@standley: Cheers Standley, I'm glad you like it =D)
great capture of the moment:)

@Will: Thanks!
You really used the bad weather to your advantage here.
16 Mar 2008 6:21am
@Peter: Ha ha, thanks, but I had no choice really! I went out to take pictures and I damn well wasn't going to come home empty handed =D)
A beautiful shot. The castle colorizes the fog to give it beautiful sense of warmth.
17 Mar 2008 5:28am
@Ron: Thanks Ron =D) Believe me, it was not warm that day!
wow. amazing! the people seem to be emerging from out of nowhere. great shot!
