Posted by drphoto (Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom) on 6 March 2008 in People & Portraits and Portfolio.
I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I'd been working on a portfolio shoot for another model. she has given her permission for me to post some of the shots up here so I thought I'd do another 'before & after'.
Today you can see the end result of my editing process. I've cleaned up the skin, made the colours more vibrant lost some of the yellow colour from the hair (at the models request), sharpened and then added my logos and a border.
Tomorrow a slightly different version.
I welcome all constructive comments, compliments and criticisms. I am here to learn. the fastest way for me to learn is for you to be really unforgiving and articulate in your criticism =D)
If you don't have time to comment don't forget to give a star rating as you pass through!

very nice pp work on this , looks like a poster !

I like everything about the portrait except the whitish border. It detracts from the beauty of the rest of the image.

@Michael Skorulski: Congratulations on being the first of many to point this out =D)
Nice colours!

THE COLOURS ARE SO VIVID, bravo
6 Mar 2008 2:43am
This and the previous post are very interesting. Generally I like the newer one for the vividness of its colors, though to my eye -- and these are all personal judgements -- it's almost a little too vivid. I also agree with Michael (above) that I find the border distracting and wonder if it might be better without. But I like the processing you've done here.

@GJC: Thanks for your comment. I do have a tendency to push the vibrancy of the colours a bit too much but this usually balances out once the images is prined and is only a problem on screen. I did read somewhere that the more vivid and bright an image is, the more it is likely to stick in the mind and be remembered... so maybe I'm just trying to create that effect ha ha!
nice shot.

Her skin and hair look amazing. Like the colors and the framing/crop. My 2¢, I agree about the border...it's a little distracting...and maybe smooth our her bra lines. Great job! This is really beautiful. I'm sure she's going to love this.

@Melissa: Thanks, you're not the first to mention the bra lines - I hadn't even thought about them!
She is beautiful, beyond a doubt. Old school, I guess, but I definitely prefer realism. Overall, yesterday's photo was much more real to my eyes. Her hair color is improved today, but her skin is almost featureless in this one, especially under her left eye. Her right cheek does show some skin pores, which do not detract (IMO), but the contrast with her other featureless cheek is strange. I agree with some of the comments left before, the white border is not an asset to this image at all.

@Viewfinder: Hi VF, you can still see skin pores on the print, I guess its just too bright online to tell. And yes, it seems everyone hates the border lol!
I love her skin tone, well done, it's like a light peach...glowing and healthy: Wonderful, colours are fantastic, but like others I'd loose the border, distracting. The photo does not need that extra zest, it's perfect ;)

nice pp!! I agree about the border, too distracting!

...beautiful work.

Wow, great difference. It's fun to flip back and forth to see what you've done. Great way to learn some new tricks. Thanks! I agree with the model's choice to tone down the yellow in the hair btw. Her hair seeming whiter makes the rest of the colors pop. Like her eyes, skin town and of course the lollypop.

@Nicole: Thanks Nicole +D) I agree about the models hair too.
excellent.. love it..

Wonderful! I think it could do without the border effect you added though. Looks pretty good just like that.

Okay, okay, so it seems like everyone hates the border (including the model) -its good to get all this feedback =D)

Nicely done. And she has beautiful eyes. I'm neutral on the border. I do think it is distracting in the bottom half of the image around her blouse, but I think the texture in the upper right corner applied across the background might look pretty good.

@Twelvebit: Yay! My first neutral on the border lol! She has the most amazing eyes it is true but give it a few years, alcohol and late nights will change that ha ha ha!
